Japan Interview
I am honored to be able to interview Peter!!! The pleasure is entirely mine, please excuse that I deleted the Japanese characters, to make it clearer for me.
You have been involved in many fetish culture publications such as SKINTWO Germany (founded by <O>), MARQUIS, HeavyRubber, MARQUIS and others. Please tell us how you came to be involved in SKINTWO Germany. Also, what kind of new fetish culture did you encounter in London?
…
Your magazine has its own unique aesthetic. What is it that you keep in mind?
I can of course only speak für myself, which is issues 1-67 ;-) It starts with the cover: It should be an outstanding fetish model, internationally recognized, the outfit should be innovative, the pose open and sexy, but esthetic - the are many criteria. We always avoided anything close to pornography, MARQUIS is about lifestyle, fashion and fetish art.
Your photos are very beautiful, especially the attention to detail in the models' heels. Is your fetish reflected in your photos? Please tell us what your fetish is besides rubber.
I have many fetishes, but first of all latex, An American publisher once asked me if I could name 101 fetishes, from A-Z. I send him a list of over 300 just an hour later. The book „FETISH 101“ by HYLAS was the result :) I can relate to any kind of fetish, even if it is not mine. I know what makes people „tick“, and I can deliver excactly what they are looking for.
Are there any models from your past work that have left a particular impression on you? Who is it?
First of all, of course, there is my ex-wife Bianca, who started MARQUIS together with me, who modeled for the premiere issue and countless photo and video sessions after. Dita von Teese is probably the most famous one now, and as it happens, I am just about to launch another book with her, which will feature all of the legendary, early sessions in a new look and layout. The crowdfunding for this book will start very soon, watch out for it! I am grateful for all the gorgeous models who stood in front of my camera, like Ancilla Tilia, Bianca Beauchamp, Emily Marilyn, Darenzia, Jess Janssen, Katsuni, Kay Morgan, Masuimi Max, Stella Curve, Susan Wayland, just to name a few. I have recently counted: I photographed more than 1,000 women in my 40-year career ..
Germany is a bit different from the fetish scene in the UK. My impression is that it is directly related to adult, but specializes in medical and rubber. Why is that? Do you think there is some kind of background unique to Germany?
I wouldn’t say „more to adult“. The scene in Germany is very large, and very differentiated. There are huge parties with almost 3,000 people attending, but a lot of them are basically swingers, and not very interested in fetish fashion. Then there are smaller gatherings of dedicated rubberists, like the Easter Weekend, and exclusive events in secret places .. Then there are professional places run by dominatrixes, who often specialize in „clinical“ games. I think the German domina studios are among the biggest and best equipped in the world. I don’t believe in any influence by anything like the „dark shadows“ of WWII, which is now almost 80 years ago. And the eduction in Germany is probably much less strict and formal than in the UK, or Japan, for instance :)
I would like to ask you about the fetish scene in Japan. From your point of view, Japan is unique, but what is your impression of it?
The latex dominated fetish scene, like we have it in Europe, seems to be much smaller in Japan. There is a dedicated group around KURAGE and Department-H, but for a country as big as Japan, that is not much. However, Japanese have many other fetishes, like shibari bondage, cosplay etc. It is all about different, but nevertheless exciting!
You have attended a fetish event in Japan during your previous visit. How was it?
The Department-H party was very much fun. I liked the idea of „self-serving“ – bring your own food and drinks, both of which was well provided by Kido-san of KURAGE. The shows were great, the people friendly and creatively dressed. There was no „play area“ and no darkroom, like on many European events, but I have no problem with that – I’d rather watch than play myself ;-) I remember that it was 8.00 am very sudden, I ususally get tired after midnight, take that as a huge compliment!
In Japan, you have been in contact with Kid'O, the designer of the rubber brand Kurage. How did you feel when you first saw Kurage's costumes?
Kido is a great person and friend, and I have a deep respect for him and his masterful art of latex fashion. KURAGE is among the very best in the world, the attention to detail and immaculate perfection is one of a kind. I regret very much not being able to visit Japan this year, but hope to do so in 2024, if my daughter continues to study in Tokyo, so Kido-san and I can re-unite :)
You have held several photo exhibitions in the past. How was the response to your solo exhibitions? Do you have any plans to hold another exhibition in Japan?
In fact, this is a plan I have had for years: I would love to exhibit in Japan, but have not found the needed contacts, to a gallery or people wo could organize this for me. Any help or contacts would be very welcome! The launch of the new DITA book would be a good opportunity.
MARQUIS is new. (*2019) Could you tell us how you felt when you left MARQUIS?
As you probably know, I had already sold it before, but the American new owner gave it back to me in 2019. I wanted to sell because I was getting too old, and found it time for a new generation to coninue, but also because my divorce. Without Bianca, I did not want to carry on, she was the backbone oft he company. My feeling now, as Andreas ha staken over, is that he is doing a great job, considering that his new start fell into the most difficult times: Covid19, the Ukraine war, inflation of printing prices .. I am very happy that the adventure continues, and MARQUIS lives on!
Please tell me your new plan.
First of all, I still cooperate with Andreas, the new owner of MARQUIS, and I have edited the last two issues of HEAVY RUBBER. Most important to me at the moment ius my online shop, and I invite all fans in Japan to take a look at it (www.peterwczernich.com) and subscribe to my newsletter, where I always post special offers and any new projects I am working on.
Right now, I work on several projects, I already mentioned the DITA book. Another big project is the creation of a CLEAR LATEX ROOM which I am developing right now for an American-Chinese client. It can be rented, and if the concept works well, it could become e a complete latex fetish hotel.. Finally, my CLEAR PLASTIC PROJECT also picks up speed, as we have found the right partners to cooperate with. There will be exciting new pictures soon :) Other than that, I have recently developed a fetish for wild flowers and orchids. Anyone who follows me on Facebook knows it. I may publish a wild flower calendar this year ..
You have many fans in Japan. Please give us a message to the fetishists in Japan.
First of all, enjoy your fetish, don‘t be ashamed of it. It is a privilege and can add spice to your life! Check out my website and shop, there are many rare collectors items for sale, original fetish art, sculptures, clothing, dvds and magazines, from my 40 years of collecting fetish erotica. I am selling all of my huge archive, bit by bit …
Can you give us a photo that we can publish?
I will send you a selection within the next days, by wetransfer :)
I hope this is ok, it is an hounour for me to get interviewed here, and I appreciate the opportunity to speak to any fans I may have in your wonderful country. I am a big fan of JAPAN :)
